Although it appears to be an exercise in minimalism, this super warm, water-repellent fleece hat maxes out on weather-fighting technology. Its soft tricot lining features Omni-Heat thermal reflective technology, which reflects and retains your body heat without sacrificing breathability. The exterior is armed with Omni-Shield advanced repellency to keep wet weather at bay, and a double-layer ear band provides bonus warmth where it's needed most. Plus, it's stretchy and soft, and it fits snugly on your head.
Columbia's Omni-Heat Thermal Reflective technology helps regulate your temperature by reflecting and retaining the warmth your body generates--all while dissipating moisture and excess heat to keep you comfortable. The technology truly manages body heat for exceptional performance in the outdoors. It provides an average heat boost of 20 percent without any additional weight or bulk, and, when coupled with other insulating fills, its metallic nature neutralizes the static that can cause migration and discomfort.
Omni-Shield Advanced Repellency is a barrier that resists light rain and stains, keeping you clean and protected. This coated fabric resists all liquids below 170 degrees F from absorbing into the yarns and staining the garment. (The treatment has no noticeable effect on the feel of the material.) The fabric itself will also dry three to five times faster than untreated fabric and will not hold moisture like a conventional fabric, thus remaining lightweight even when wet.

About Columbia SportswearFounded in 1938, Columbia Sportswear Company has grown from a small family-owned hat distributor to one of the world's largest outerwear brands and the leading seller of skiwear in the United States. Columbia's extensive product line includes a wide variety of outerwear, sportswear, rugged footwear and accessories. Columbia specializes in developing innovative products that are functional yet stylish and offer great value. Eighty-year-old matriarch Gert Boyle, chairman of the board, and her son, Tim Boyle, president and CEO, lead the company.
Columbia's history starts with Gert's parents, Paul and Marie Lamfrom, when they fled Germany in 1937. They bought a small hat distributorship in Portland, Oregon, and named it Columbia Hat Company, after the river bordering the city. Soon frustrated by poor deliveries from suppliers, the Lamfroms decided to start manufacturing products themselves. In 1948, Gert married college sweetheart Neal Boyle, who joined the family business and later took the helm of the growing company. When Neal suddenly died of a heart attack in 1970, Gert enlisted help from Tim, then a college senior. After that it wasn't long before business really started to take off. Columbia was one of the first companies to make jackets from waterproof/breathable fabric. The company introduced the breakthrough technology called the Columbia Interchange System, in which a shell and liner combine for multiple wearing options. In the early 1980s, then-60-year-old Gert began her role as "Mother Boyle" in Columbia's successful and popular advertising campaign.
The company went public in 1998 and moved into a new era as a world leader in the active outdoor apparel industry. Today, Columbia Sportswear employs more than 1,800 people around the world and distributes and sells products in more than 50 countries and to more than 12,000 retailers internationally.

Columbia Men's Fast Trek Fleece Hat
Customer Reviews
Very warm hat that lives up to the specs and advertisements. Wore it hiking in 37 degree weather with a steady 15knot breeze and did not feel anything
Only negative is the sizes run very small. I am only 5'7, 180's, medium frame; and the x-large is quite snug and barely long enough to cover my earlobes, even to the point of riding up occasionally and exposing them.
I bought the "Large/X-Large" version of this hat for my pretty big head (I wear a size 8 or 8 1/8 fitted baseball cap). It is definitely high quality and looks as good as the picture, however it didn't even come close to fitting my head. The tag inside said large/x-large, but I'm thinking it was possibly a women's hat? The material does not stretch at all because it is fleece and not a traditional knit-style hat.
Anyway, if you wear a size 8 baseball hat, this will definitely not fit your head. I tried to return it via Amazon and they sent me a message saying "keep the hat and we'll just refund your card". I suppose it was because it would cost just too much to ship it back to them. I thought that was a nice courtesy from Amazon. I gave the hat to my brother who has a slightly smaller head and it didn't fit him either. I think he gave it to his wife.
Long story short, nice hat, but not big-head-friendly.
